Sleep Beckons

Sleep with its silky smooth wisps, gently lulls me ever closer to explore the bottomless chasm of its inky blackness.
The night within night within infinite time.
A dwelling place for myriad dreams and fantasies to play out in never-ending permutations, with details as minute as the imagination can tolerate.
A heartbeat. A breathe. A sigh.
In vain through chemical induced imbalance we attempt it to delay, but its call an uncontrollable addiction cannot and must not be shaken.
We falter. We follow. We fade.
Sleep beckons.

Elusive Slumber

Eyes, baggy, heavy,
Fatigue.
Foot, tapping, music,
Caffeine.
Conscious, yet gone.
Oh, so gone.
Sleep so far away.

When will the night be my friend again?
When will sleep wholely embrace me?
Sparks flash before my eyes.
Pain consumes my brain.
Push on. Push on.
Push to break free.
Free from the alluring undercurrent of black nothingness.
